We spent the weekend in Orlando, Florida at the final Varsity Brands competition of the season, The Summit. This year marks the 4th annual Summit, where L1-L5R teams from all across the country traveled to Disney World to compete in the most prestigious non-Worlds level event of all star cheerleading. In order to attend The Summit, teams had to earn a bid at a Varsity Summit bid event. With less than 1% of teams earning a bid, the competition was fierce just to be eligible to attend the Summit. The first day of competition was Friday, where teams who had earned a “wildcard” bid competed against each other for a chance to make it to the next stages of competition. The winners of each wildcard division automatically advanced into Sunday’s final round of competition, and the teams placing second in their wildcard division advanced to Saturday’s semi-finals round. This year’s event included over 900 teams from all over the country, and crowned 42 champions over the course of the weekend.
While all of the divisions were packed with talent, the Junior 5 and Youth 5 Restricted divisions packed the milkhouse, with thousands of spectators eager to view the youngest L5 athletes of all star cheerleading. Another division that drew a large crowd was the Small Senior 4 division, which was also one of the largest divisions of the competition, with 13 wildcard teams and 25 semi-finalist teams. In the end, the SS4 division crowned not one but TWO winners this weekend, with Cheer Florida Sea Warriors and Stars Vipers Diamondbacks tying for first place.
