UCA College Nationals 2016 Results

We were in Orlando, Florida last weekend for UCA College Nationals, where some of the best collegiate cheer and dance teams from across the country gathered to compete for the title of national champion. Fan-favorite University of Kentucky cheer was out for blood this year, hoping to claim their 21st national win after a disappointing fall during finals last year. Of course the 2015 national champion University of Alabama teams weren’t going down without a fight, after a clean sweep at nationals last year, where they left with unprecedented wins in the D1A Coed AND D1A All Girl divisions. But bobbles from their coed team, and the other top contender, UCF, left the door open for Kentucky to come home with another win under their belt. In the D1A division, Alabama put up a good fight to hold onto their national title, but in the end Indiana University outscored them and left with another win, leaving Alabama in second, and Western Kentucky in third.

But the biggest winner of UCA College Nationals this year had to be Morehead State University, who brought two teams and left with THREE national titles! Their coed team beat out longtime rivals Delaware to win their 24th national championship in the DI division, while their all girl team beat out University of West Georgia’s powerhouse all girl team to come home with a win as well. Their third national win of this competition came Friday night in the coed partner stunt division, where team members Taylor DeSimone and Colin Tipps outscored 12 other stunt groups AND were voted “Fan Favorite” on UCA’s social media contest.

While the University of West Georgia didn’t win the DI All Girl title, their coed team did dominate in the DII coed division, beating out some strong teams from Puerto Rico as well as Northwest Missouri State University, who finished in second place. In the DI Small Coed division, Hofstra University defended their 2015 win and brought another first-place win back to Long Island. In the DII Small Coed division, Wilmington University continued their 5-year winning streak, and in the Open Coed division, Shelton State Community College brought home their 8th consecutive national championship win. And in the Open All Girl division, Nassau Community College finally captured the national champion title that they’ve been so close to attaining for the past few years. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners – your hard work was evident out there on the mat!
